So as you probably guessed, the LHC experiments have both observed a new particle independently. This is finally "official". Just for clarity, the reason we have not spoken about this to the public before is because it wasn't yet finished. Now the analyses are done, and nature has spoken: a new boson exists with a mass of about 125 times the mass of the proton.

Yes, both CMS and ATLAS have independently observed a new boson. This is not necessarily the Higgs boson, actually, but it is a new Higgs-like boson. We'll need more data to discern the details.
