What if the billboard was put up on a church's property?
You guessed it, the church got its panties in a bunch and asked that the billboard be taken down. Turns out that the church property had been leased to a billboard company, that in turn rented the space to a group of atheists. So even though the church had no say in the dealings of its lessee, they made a forceful request to have the ad removed.
The atheists did move their ad elsewhere, but in the process discovered that the church had forgotten Jesus's call for separation of church and state
Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. - Matt 22:21Someone forgot to pay their property taxes. $20,000 worth of rendering to Caesar had been forgotten. Oops!
Predictably the church and its supporters (Christians, for those slow on the uptake) are blaming the atheists. For godlessness, vindictiveness, and racism.
Racism?
Yes, because the ad featured a black dude and—wait for it—the pastor of the church is also black!
Obviously.
