How to move the Overton Window

The country is moving right. If you do not think that is the case, you need to familiarize yourself with the Overton window and then examine recent history.

Thanks to the mainstream media trying to be balanced, or be "fair and balanced," one side—the more vocal side—is winning the mindshare of the general populace.

Do not confuse this to be a Democrat vs Republican thing. This is about Republicans going farther right, and the Democrats following suit.

Witness the current battle for defund-Obamacare-or-shutdown going on.


One side is stark raving insane, and the other is the pusillaminous Democrats.

For now the cry in the media is that the Republicans are insane having a civil war over trying to shutdown the government.

There is only one side that is insane. But that makes it uncomfortable for the media who want to be in the "middle."

Because balance.

So pretty soon they'll be asking what the Democrats should do to meet the other side "half way."  And thus it starts.The Democrats who are spineless move a little toward the batshit crazy side that is stubborn and uncompromising.

Once the sheep do that, the Republicans move even more rightwards. That, is how you move the window. You do know that they are cutting SNAP by $40 billion, right? You did not? Well, that's what the Democrats gave in when they held their ground on not agreeing to defund Obamacare.

No one is calling them on that surrender.
